Web hosting for a small business: how to choose the right plan

Most small businesses need less hosting than the plans they are sold, but they need the right things: email that works, backups they can restore, and someone who answers when something breaks. This guide lists what matters, what you can ignore, and the questions to ask before you pay.

Start with what your website does

A company website with a few pages, a contact form and a blog has very different needs from a web shop with thousands of products. Before you compare plans, write down three things:

  • How many websites you run now, and how many you might add in the next year (a second brand, a campaign site, a booking page).
  • How many email addresses your team needs, such as info@, sales@ and one per employee.
  • What the site is built with. WordPress and most other PHP systems run on standard cPanel hosting. Custom applications may need a VPS instead.

The technical basics that matter

  • Fast storage. NVMe SSD storage makes pages and the admin panel load noticeably faster than older disks. For a normal company site, 25 GB is plenty; images and email use the most space.
  • Free SSL. Every site needs HTTPS, both for visitors’ trust and for Google. It should be included and renew automatically, not sold as an extra.
  • A familiar control panel. cPanel is the most widely used hosting panel. It lets you manage email, files, databases and backups yourself, and most tutorials are written for it.
  • Easy WordPress. A one-click installer with automatic updates saves time and closes security holes before they are abused.
  • Current PHP versions. Look for PHP 8.x support so your site and plugins stay supported.

Backups: check how long they are kept

Almost every host says “daily backups”. The important question is how many days back you can go. If a plugin update breaks your shop and nobody notices for a week, a backup that is only kept for three days is useless.

Ask whether you can restore a backup yourself from the control panel, or whether you have to open a ticket and wait. Restoring yourself takes minutes.

Support, data location and honest prices

  • Real people, in your language. When your email stops working, you want a clear answer from a person who understands the problem, not a chatbot. Check which languages support is offered in and when they answer.
  • Where your data is stored. If you have customers in the EU, storing their data in the EU makes GDPR much simpler. Ask the host directly; “European company” does not always mean European servers.
  • The renewal price. Many hosts advertise a low first-year price with a crossed-out “normal” price, then renew at several times the amount. Compare the price you will pay in year two, not the banner price.
  • A way out. A money-back period lets you test the service with your real site before you commit.

Moving from your current host

Switching hosts is usually easier than people expect. If your current host also uses cPanel, a full account backup can be restored on the new server with files, databases and email intact. Read our guide on moving a website without downtime for the steps.

Which 2-Host plan fits a small business

All our web hosting plans run on NVMe storage in a Tier-3 datacenter in the EU, with free auto-renewing SSL, cPanel, one-click WordPress and support in English, Swedish and Arabic.

  • Personal suits a single company site: 1 website, 10 email accounts, 25 GB NVMe and daily backups kept for 14 days.
  • Business suits most growing companies: 10 websites, 50 email accounts, 75 GB NVMe, backups kept for 30 days, priority support and a free domain for the first year on annual billing.
  • Agency is for web designers managing client sites, with unlimited sites (fair use), SSH and 60 days of backups.

The price you see is the price you pay, without fake discounts, and every plan has a 14-day money-back guarantee. Most cPanel sites are moved to us at no extra cost.
